MonaBike enters second phase of development

MonaBike enters second phase of development

To encourage soft mobility and bike use in the Principality, the Prince’s Government and the Monegasque Bus Company (CAM) gave a fresh boost to electric bike sharing in July 2019 with the roll-out of the new MonaBike scheme which features:

- Double the number of stations and triple the number of bikes

- Access for occasional/tourist users via a smartphone app which makes it easy to see where the stations are located and how many bikes are available at each station

- Integration with the Government’s multimodal app

Citymapper.

With 2,100 scheme members and 342,000 journeys in 2020, the new MonaBike scheme is a huge success and use has increased fourfold.

There is now an average of more than seven journeys per bike per day, putting MonaBike on a par with bike sharing schemes in major cities.

To continue this positive trend and further improve the Principality’s network, new stations are set to be installed gradually over the coming days at the Heliport, in the Ténao tunnel in Saint Roman, on Boulevard d’Italie, on Boulevard de Belgique near the entrance to Princess Antoinette Park, on Avenue de Grande Bretagne, on Rue des Lauriers and on Boulevard du Jardin Exotique in front of Révoires primary school.

Soon, there will be 43 MonaBike stations and 390 bikes. Wherever they are travelling in the Principality, users will be able to find a station near both their starting point and their destination.

Marie-Pierre Gramaglia, Minister of Public Works, the Environment and Urban Development: “I’m delighted to see the MonaBike roll-out continue today, because this service, which has been a real success, is absolutely perfect for short journeys in our city state.”

Practical guide

Attractive rates:

- Annual subscription of €72 or €48 for users who also have a bus or public car park season ticket;

- Occasional users pay €18 for a month, €6 for a week, €2 for a day and €1 per journey.

How does it work?

- Choose the option that suits you on the monabike.mc website or directly via the PBSC app, which is available to download;

- Release a bike by presenting your contactless CAM card at the bike dock or by scanning the bike’s QR code using the app on your smartphone;

- Return the bike to a free spot at a station. The green light on the dock confirms that your journey has been completed.
