SBM Offshore opens ‘zero single-use plastic’ kitchens
SBM Offshore recently opened its brand new ‘zero single-use plastic’ kitchens, with the Mission for Energy Transition in attendance. It’s an ambition that is fully in line with the National Energy Transition Pact goals.
The aim of the project, implemented under the National Green Fund led by the Mission for Energy Transition, is to eliminate single-use plastic, used by SBM Offshore in the form of 600,000 to 700,000 cups and glasses per year, representing 1.5 tonnes of CO2.
SBM Offshore has made a long-term commitment to the environment, including within its core operations – it embarked on research and development in the renewable energy sector more than a decade ago.
The first organisation to sign the National Energy Transition Pact in January 2018, SBM Offshore has since:
- Set an ambitious target to reduce business travel
- Introduced extensive teleworking
- Encouraged car sharing via the KLAXIT app, managed by the Mission for Energy Transition among others
- Given each employee a stainless steel bottle
- Got its local subcontractors to sign the Pact
- Removed personal wastebins from the office
- Increased signage and communications about recycling
- Introduced a solution for recycling cigarette butts
- Made local organic fruit available
Most of these actions have also been replicated across the rest of the world.
SBM Offshore constantly questions what it does and, even more importantly, what it could do differently.
A huge congratulations from the entire Mission for Energy Transition team to this longstanding partner!
