Photovoltaic panels at the Ballets de Monte-Carlo studio
As part of the Prince’s Government’s energy transition policy, the Public Buildings Maintenance Office is installing photovoltaic panels on the roof of the Ballets de Monte-Carlo Studio.
The installation, which covers an area of 403 m² and comprises 228 photovoltaic panels, will generate 94,000 kWh of electricity per year and supply 30% of the studio’s energy needs. It will also help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 7.70 tonnes of CO2 per year.
The Public Buildings Maintenance Office will soon be installing further photovoltaic panels on: the Monaco Scientific Centre, which has the largest roof surface area and generation capacity of all public buildings, the Scouts of Monaco, the Triton building and François d'Assise-Nicolas Barré (FANB) School, which will be equipped with the new generation of coloured panels, an aesthetic solution that will deliver better visual integration within the Monaco Ville district.
Support is available for the installation of photovoltaic-type electricity-producing devices.
A new Ministerial Decree about this incentive was published in the Official Journal of Monaco on 7 June 2021. To increase the amount of renewable electricity generated, the Government has decided to simplify the administrative procedure for payment of this support and to extend the scheme to anyone who generates energy.
Owners may therefore engage any third-party investor to invest in and carry out the installation of photovoltaic panels. This could be professionals but it could also be tenants. The electricity generated can then either be used by the building itself or fed into the electricity grid and purchased by SMEG. In addition, photovoltaic panels may now be installed on flat or sloping roofs, or on building facades.
